Make My Wish Come True book review

I have been a massive Rachael Lippincott fan for almost 4 years and always get so excited when she announces a new YA book. I was especially excited when she announced this one as it is a festive romance and I am also a festive romance lover.

This was a book I read throughout December and absolutely loved doing so. The romance was brilliant and included all the festive feels which I always look for in a festive book but isn’t always delivered on.

Make My Wish Come True follows Arden, a teen actor, who is determined to get a role so with her publicist lies that she is dating her childhood best friend, Caroline, who agrees to play along and write an article about their twelve holiday dates. However, as they begin spending time together again, old feelings begin to resurface.

Even while I read less and less YA romance as the years go by, Rachael Lippincott (and Alyson Derrick now) is an author I can always trust to deliver on the romance in a way that I enjoy and am invested in. Make My Wish Come True was no different. From early on I was invested in the dynamic between Caroline and Arden, their history and friendship shared. I wanted the best for both of them, and even with Hollywood being the industry it is, for everything to work out in a way it previously hadn’t.

Caroline was a character I liked and wanted the best for from early on and while originally I wasn’t sure about Arden she really grew on me throughout the book and by the end there were many things I wanted to happen so that she could have the best outcome.

As I briefly mentioned this had the perfect festive vibes throughout due to the twelve holiday dates that Caroline and Arden went on and the town of Barnwich’s love for Christmas. This book felt cosy, Christmassy and cheesy in the best way possible. I also liked that there was a multi-holiday element with Caroline’s family celebrating Hannakuh and how that was incorporated into the story. It is always nice to find more books featuring holidays that aren’t just Christmas.

Overall this was exactly what I wanted from a new festive Rachael Lippincott book and I am so glad I read it particularly in the way that I did. An ideal combination of a book for me and I will definitely be returning to it in future years along with recommending it to others.
