I want to say that this is my second read of this book, however I would not be surprised if it was my third read and I loved it just as much as I remember doing so the first time around. I read this book so quickly, getting through the whole thing in close to 13 hours along with sleeping.
The Merry Christmas Project follows Merry who has a booming new candle business but has also taken on a new project of organising her town’s annual festive event, and Cole who’s desperate to see his kids again but as he can’t currently do that is keeping himself distracted building a house for when they can be together.
As I already mentioned this book was a reread that I previously loved and would potentially say is my favourite festive book, and luckily for me it held up and was just as good two years on.
One of the things I find makes or breaks a festive book for me are the characters which in this book (and in book 2) I love. I find them interesting to read about and want to spend more time with after the book ends. If I could just read about these characters going about their day to day lives I probably would, I just want to spend that much time with them.
While I also really enjoyed book 2 and cannot see a way in which I won’t enjoy book 3 I don’t know that anything will beat Merry and Cole’s original romance for me. No matter how well I know it it just sweeps me up and transports me exactly to Wetherley where it is all going on. I want to keep watching their feelings for each other develop and see the parallels between each of their perspectives as the book goes on.
As like many festive books we spend a lot of time around friends and family here and I don’t think there is a single character I don’t enjoy seeing appear. Fred and Hester are so much fun in this book, I look forward to seeing more of Freya and Harley because while we do see them in this book it is almost entirely on video call. Then on Merry’s side Nell is one of the best friends you could ask for and Astrid is such an entertaining character in the best way possible.
The festive vibes are truly the best that you could ask for, it is magical, cosy and the perfect thing to read in the run up to Christmas.
I cannot wait to reread book 2 before reading book 3 at the start of December. This remains one of my two go to festive recommendations and I am so glad I reread it.
