Burning Crowns book review

Burning Crowns is the third and final book in the Twin Crowns series that I have been invested in since reading Twin Crowns late last year and Cursed Crowns soon after that, so as soon as I saw the Wren and Rose editions I pre-ordered it because I knew I needed to know what was going to happen. I will try not to spoil either of the two previous books in this review but while it is spoiler free for Burning Crowns I can’t guarantee it completely is for both of them.

We follow on about 3 months after Cursed Crowns ended if I am right, so there have been some events in between but no major things have gone during that time.

Like Twin Crowns and Cursed Crowns we get both Wren and Rose’s perspectives which I love, as while they are going through the same story they also have smaller stories that are their own showing their development and romances, which I was obsessed with. I do not think it is possible for me to choose a favourite sister because I love them both so so much and their stories!

This series has so many amazing side characters from love interests, to well developed friends to characters who we see frequently. Shen and Tor create very different love stories with the respective sisters which means that when you are reading you can be invested in both romances without feeling like they are the same and becoming tiring. Both characters also feel like they bring a great cast of characters with them, especially Shen who has a great family that I love and have a fun time reading about and always want to see more. Celeste is a character who I loved seeing grow from Twin Crowns to Buring Crowns, she feels like a completely different character in a good way and I am so happy for the evolution she has been through. These aren’t all the side characters I love but they are some of my favourites and the ones who stick with me the most.

Wren and Rose have also both evolved a lot as characters during these three books and since meeting each other. They are very different characters which works perfectly for the books as a whole and each individual plot line, part of the reason I think that the voices of these characters are obviously distinctive and they feel like very different people is because they are written by different authors who can write extremely well together while also staying separate and in their own voices. They are authors that I want to read more from separately to see if my thoughts about them stay the same but I wouldn’t be surprised if they do.

I loved this book so much, I couldn’t put it down and found it to be the perfect ending to this series. I really liked how for much of the book the two sisters were separate and on their own mission to try and sort things out and how that meant we got two separate but connected stories. It also meant we saw a massive range of characters who we already knew but if Rose and Wren had been together I don’t think we would have had as much substantial time with these characters.

This may be my favourite book in the series, and I could not rate any of them but five stars. It was the perfect ending and I cannot wait for the two standalone books we’ll get because I think I’m guaranteed to love them too. Highly recommend this series and if you start it now then you’ll be in a good place when who they are about is announced.

The Match book review

Back in April I was recommended my first Sarah Adams book and really enjoyed it however it wasn’t my favourite type of romance book so when I saw this one had been rereleased and was 99p on Kindle I knew that I needed to read it.  The Match follows Evie who works for a company that trains service dogs to help people with all sorts of disabilities after her life was changed when she got a service dog to help with her epilepsy and when she meets Jacob when trying to convince him how much a service dog would help his daughter she begins to fall for him and his small family.  This was such a light brilliant romance that I just wanted to read and continue to be immersed in the story for as long as I could. I loved all of our major characters particularly Evie, Jacob and Sam (Jacob's daughter). Sam just added the best things to the story and the romance going on between Evie and Jacob. She was also a brilliant character on her own that you really felt for and you just underst...

The Mistletoe Motive book review

I discovered Chloe Liese for the first time this year and have since May read her entire backlist and loved all of them. The Mistletoe Motive was no exception to this and another one I read within 24 hours.  Over the course of The Mistletoe Motive we get to know Gabrielle and Jonathan who have worked together at Bailey’s Bookshop for about a year but don’t find themselves getting along. They have recently learned that the bookshop is at risk of closing though and set a challenge of whoever sells the least books in December has to resign and through this challenge Gabrielle meets a new side of Jonathan that she didn’t expect.  This is a novella of under 200 pages so while going in I knew I love Chloe Liese as an author I wasn’t sure what I would think of it with it being so short and having less time with the characters. However I was not at all let down by this book and absolutely loved reading it.  Gabrielle was a character I connected to from early on in the stor...

It Only Happens in the Movies book review

I have previously loved Holly Bourne books but found that I wasn’t the biggest fan of the one I read in 2024 so was a bit anxious going into It Only Happens in the Movies however I had no need for that anxiety because this book was exactly what I wanted and more.  It Only Happens in the Movies follows Audrey who is over romance after her parents divorce that has left her stuck in the middle, a tough break up and teenage friendship struggles. When she starts a new job and meets Harry, Audrey tries to stay away however she can’t help falling for him even if she knows she shouldn’t.  When I first started I was unsure about the book with the elements of romance however I was pleasantly surprised. Holly Bourne built up a character who I understood and felt relatable. The book had the expected message present in almost all Holly Bourne books which made the story more impactful and me wanting to keep reading to see how things worked out.  All the characters were well-deve...
