I was prompted to pick up Sarah Adams book on my physical TBR early this year for a challenge I was doing and really enjoyed it so have since been keen to read more by her. When in Rome is my fourth book by Sarah Adams now and the start of the series by Sarah Adams I have potentially seen the most online.
When in Rome follows Amelia Rose, who is also known as Rae Rose, and is desperate for a break so inspired by Audrey Hepburn film she decides to escape to Rome, Kentucky where she breaks down in the front garden of grumpy pie shop Noah Walker.
So far what I am finding with Sarah Adams, and this book being no exception, is that she is a romance author I can trust to give me a fun romance that I can easily binge and escape into with no spice. This ticks so many boxes for me and is exactly what I want to turn to when things feel challenging, though at the rate I’m going I wonder if I might be soon finished her backlist.
There were so many parts of this book that for whatever reason I really enjoyed. The small town setting is a prime example of why small towns are great to read about because while they are all nosy they are also welcoming, there for each other and will happily band together to protect someone. They also are full of brilliant characters like Mabel and James who only add to the book and my enjoyment of it.
Talking about characters this book does them so well, not just the people we meet in Rome but also our two lead characters Noah and Amelia who were so well-developed and had you wanting to spend time with them. And Noah’s sisters who we get to see in many scenes and I am so excited to learn more about in the future books of the series. As one of three girls I love to see themes of sisterhood and dynamics that reflect what I share with my two sisters. Even though this book was in Noah’s perspective we start to get an inkling of this and I look forward to more of it.
I found the celebrity element of this book to be really interesting and while I do think I have now read a few books with this idea it always really interests me, particularly to see it in a different light with messages that slightly differ. You could tell why Amelia continued to do what she did but you could also see the lack of space, privacy and everything else that comes with being famous weighed on her and one totally got why she wanted a break from it all.
This was easily a 4.5 star romance book that I highly recommend and a series I am excited to continue with. Sarah Adams is an author I look forward to purchasing more from and having her represented on my shelves because she feels like an author who could easily become a comfort author and I will continue to come back to.
