I have been working my way through Sarah Adams backlist and this is my first 5 star from her (though I have had some that have come close). I am so happy to have now had a 5 star read from Sarah Adams and look forward to hopefully having another from her soon.
Practice Makes Perfect follows Annie, Noah from When in Rome’s youngest sister, and Will, Amelia’s bodyguard. Will who just wants to stay away from Annie ends up agreeing to help Annie improve her love life and go on practice dates with her as her dating coach.
This was another Sarah Adams book that I couldn’t help but binge reading about 200 pages in one sitting. I had such a good time being back in Rome and following characters who I had previously met in When in Rome but wanted to learn more about. It wasn’t just Will and Annie who we learned more about in this book. I felt that we also got to learn more about the other members of the town with strong personalities like Mabel and many others whose names have gone out of my head just now. I also have a feeling that as the series goes on this will continue which excites me.
The small town of Rome is one of my favourite things about this series with all of the characters who can’t mind their own business and while that does cause issues in this book (in a justified way) I still want to see more of these characters. Assuming we get four books, one for each Walker sibling, I have predictions and hopes about what we will see as the series goes on.
I loved learning more about Annie in this book and while I have a feeling that I will connect more to one of the other sisters there were parts of Annie that really resonated to me and while we did learn about Annie in When in Rome it now feels like we only brushed the surface and digging deeper into her was great. We didn’t learn more about Noah as a character, but that is to be expected after following him in his own book, however we did learn more about Emily and Madison which I loved and it makes me so excited to read their books. There was one scene where everything came out with Annie to her sisters and their reactions made me so happy.
Will was a great character and book boyfriend. The way he treated Annie and was there for her and brought her out of her shell and made me so happy to see. He didn’t force her to do anything but what he did say and do was great to see, and the wider impact it had on Annie was such a good thing to see. His reaction to romance books was also something that as a romance reader I was so happy to see, especially when we had it compared to some other characters directly in this book.
I am so happy that this was a 5 star read and that this is a series that is continuing to just get better. Sarah Adams is proving herself to be a favourite romance author of mine along with being a comfort author I want to have on my shelves. After working through this review too, it has proved itself to be a true 5 star read I love.
