I wanted to read this book for months before I finally managed to pick it up and it did not disappoint, I loved it. This book is a re-imagining of the Hades and Persephone myth with the actual gods! Instead of Persephone being tricked into marrying Hades she runs away to the Underworld, to escape being forced into a marriage she doesn't want.
I was expecting to highly enjoy this book with both the synopsis and the reviews I was seeing, I was desperate to read it for ages and since it hasn't been out of my head for more than a could days at a time. I loved how it wasn't just s retelling of the story because retellings are something we get a lot of these days, I liked that it did seem like we were getting told the genuine story as well as feeling modern. There are a lot of components in this book that work together to make it what it is and they do all need to work together perfectly otherwise it would all feel slightly off yet they do and it reads brilliantly. I couldn't put it down.
I love both Persephone and Hades as characters and how developed those characters became - I felt like by the end of the book I truly knew who they are as people. Hades's had so many unexpected things about him but I absolutely adored him for it and I think he's made his way onto the book boyfriend list. Persephone was such a strong character who knew exactly what she wanted and how she was going to get it but cared for the people she loved so deeply which I think makes the perfect balance.
I loved the plot twists and seeing some of these specific characters come into who they are. The tropes were also some of my favourites and done well. I am really excited to see what other YA Greek Mythology romcoms Bea Fitzgerald has coming our way. If you couldn't already tell this is a UKYA book I highly recommend and I think is going to make it onto my favourites list this year.
