Loathe to Love You is a collection of Alice Hazelwood’s three STEMinist novellas, Under One Roof, Stuck With You and Below Zero. I really enjoyed these three stories, I know not everyone did or would but I had a fun time reading them and liked the characters. So far all the Ali Hazelwood books I have read have all been very similar in plot and character types and while that is something a lot of people don’t enjoy I have so far. The stories are all different enough to be able to tell them apart and even then as someone who loves rereading her favourite books because of the comfort of knowing the story I don’t have any problems with the similarities. Of course, the characters are quite similar again but I find that they are different enough and if the girls were much more different it would be harder to understand their friendship as easily. My favourite out of the three was probably Under One Roof, I really liked Mara and Liam’s characters and how they got to know each other better. Then later on how they worked together and pushed and supported each other as well as they could. There were definitely some scenes and moments I absolutely loved and made me enjoy it even more. I think one of the reasons why this one was my favourite is because you got to see their relationship develop the most as they had quite a few more scenes together in their novella where they got to get to know each other more than in the other two novellas. In Stuck With You, I really liked Sadie and Erik’s characters and how their relationship eventually developed but I just didn’t love it as much, I’m not completely sure why it may have been the miscommunication/conflict between them but I’m not completely sure. There were still definitely scenes I loved and as I already mentioned I had no problems with their relationship. I still really enjoyed this novella and something that stood out to me that this novella had more than the other two was the similarities between the characters and the immediate things they both shared a passion for, football, they both already loved this and it added depth to the characters and their relationship. Below Zero is the final novella in this book and again I really enjoyed it. I enjoyed reading about Hannah’s character and her story and loved many things about this book but there were some things I wasn’t as keen on. I didn’t like the reasoning for the tension between characters and the kind of miscommunication between them again (common theme). I did really enjoy the rescue though and the reasoning behind it. Something else I loved was the ending to the story. I also found the NASA setting to be quite interesting as well. As I previously mentioned Under One Roof was probably my favourite, then Below Zero and finally Stuck With You though I loved them all. The bonus chapter was also a great addition that I really enjoyed reading and was glad that it was added. Overall an enjoyable collection of novellas that I really enjoyed reading. |
